Choosing Decorative Stones by Size, Finish and Color
Each color comes as gravel or as pebbles, and that is the first choice. Gravel is the fine grade for planters, pots, top dressing and paths, where it packs down and covers evenly. Pebbles are the larger grade for beds, borders, water features and the ground around a fire pit, where each stone shows on its own. Polished Black, Jade and Snow White are stocked in both grades; Gold, Red, Stripe and Mixed come as pebbles, with Mixed also in gravel.
The polished finish is a tumbled surface that brings the color up. It holds best in planters, indoors and under moving water, and it softens over a few seasons in direct sun. High Polished Black is the deepest finish in the range. Snow White is also stocked unpolished, and the Bean Pebbles in black, white, jade and wood tones and the Black Lava Pebbles have a natural matte surface that stays as it is.
The fire glass is tempered reflective glass for gas and propane fire features in copper, cobalt blue, black, sky blue, bronze, gold, silver and crystal teal. It is in this collection because it is usually ordered with pebbles for the surround.
Planters, Beds, Water Features and Fire Pits
In planters and pots, a layer of polished gravel covers the soil and slows evaporation. In beds and borders, pebbles take the place of mulch and do not need replacing each spring.
