Cinder blocks are generally not safe to use in a fire pit because they are porous and can absorb moisture. When heated, this moisture can expand and cause the blocks to crack or even explode. For fire pits, it's safer to use fire-rated bricks or blocks specifically designed to withstand high temperatures.
