Granite steps are generally more slippery than limestone steps, especially when wet. Granite has a smoother, denser surface due to its igneous composition, which can reduce traction. Limestone, being sedimentary, often has a rougher, more porous texture, providing better grip. Our Banas granite steps, however, have different surfaces, flamed and shotblasted/waterjet depending on the color. Flaming significantly improves traction on granite steps. The process involves applying high heat to the stone's surface, causing the top layer to burst and create a rough, textured finish. This increases grip, especially when wet, making flamed granite less slippery than polished or honed surfaces. Shotblasting, often done with abrasive materials and sometimes combined with waterjet for precision, also enhances traction by creating a uniformly rough surface. It removes the smooth outer layer, exposing a coarser texture that provides good grip, similar to or slightly better than flaming due to its consistency. So, in a nutshell, both our granite and limestone steps offer good traction, it boils down to your personal preference on color and pricing.
